Synthesis, Characterization, and Studies of PVA/Co-Doped ZnO Nanocomposite Films

Abstract: Polymer nanocomposites are made up of two or more phases wherein the inorganic particles are dispersed in a polymer matrix. The present article deals with Co-doped ZnO embedded in a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix using a sol-gel method. The synthesized nanocomposites were structurally characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the optical properties were studied using photoluminescence and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. Thermal studies including thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were conducted … Show more

“…Tensile strength and E-Modulus exalted 1.6 and 5 times, respectively, in comparison with neat polymer. The amplification in the tensile strength was may be due to homogenous dispersion of nanoparticles and their interaction with the hydroxyl groups of the PVA which may in turn increase the crystallinity of the polymer as observed in the XRD of the films depicted in our previous paper [36]. Similar observation was made by Kumar and co-workers [37] that on doping with WO 3 and ZnO, PVA stiffness and strength increased.…”

“…The effect suggested micropatterning the optical structures into composite films . Kumar et al prepared cobalt doped ZnO loaded PVA nanocomposite films using the sol–gel method. Optical properties of the prepared nanocomposites were studied by ultraviolet visible spectroscopy and photoluminescence, and the thermal properties using thermogravimetric analysis.…”

“…Over the past decades, transition metal oxides (TMOs) have been widely investigated for use in applications related to electronic, optical, and mechanical properties. Among these, TMOs, zinc oxide (ZnO), and tungsten oxide (WO 3 ) are promising materials for the various above mentioned applications [10][11][12][13]. When these TMOs are incorporated in polymers, it improves their electrical, mechanical, and optical properties due to their high interfacial interaction between organic moieties and inorganic nanoparticles.…”
