Synthesis, characterization and luminescent properties of europium complexes with 2,4,6‐tris‐(2‐pyridyl)‐s‐triazine as highly efficient sensitizers

Abstract: Using 2,4,6-tris-(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine (TPTZ) as a neutral ligand, and p-hydroxybenzoic acid, terephthalic acid and nitrate as anion ligands, five novel europium complexes have been synthesized. These complexes were characterized using elemental analysis, rare earth coordination titrations, UV/vis absorption spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy. Luminescence spectra, luminescence lifetime and quantum efficiency were investigated and the mechanism discussed in depth. The results show that the complexes have … Show more

“…The absorbance peak at 255 nm corresponds to the p-hydroxybenzoic acid moiety, whereas the other peak at 350 nm could be contributed to the π−π* transformations of the whole conjugated backbone. 34 Figure 1B,C shows the typical AIE behavior of the polymer in THF/ H 2 O mixtures with different ratios being investigated. At low water fractions (f w ), the PL intensity shows no difference.…”

“…As shown in Figure S2, the conjugated polymer displayed two distinct absorbance peaks in THF centered at 255 and 350 nm, respectively. The absorbance peak at 255 nm corresponds to the p-hydroxybenzoic acid moiety, whereas the other peak at 350 nm could be contributed to the π–π* transformations of the whole conjugated backbone Figure B,C shows the typical AIE behavior of the polymer in THF/H 2 O mixtures with different ratios being investigated.…”

“…P1–P3 showed similar absorption bands in the UV region (Figure a). The absorption band at around 262 nm is assigned to the π–π* transitions of the p-hydroxybenzoic acid moiety, while the other band at around 370 nm might be attributed to the π–π* transitions of the entire conjugated backbone. As shown in Figures b and S4, the PL spectra of P1–P3 obtained in tetrahydrofuran (THF)/H 2 O mixtures exhibited similar AIE behaviors.…”

“…Of the red, green and blue three‐color display in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs), the red display is the most important. Red light‐emitting materials generally include precious metal complexes, such as iridium and platinum complexes and europium complex . Although the electroluminescent efficiencies of platinum and iridium complexes are higher than those of europium complexes, their color purity is insufficient because of their wide‐scale luminescent spectra.…”
