Synthesis, Characterization and in Vitro Evaluation of Manganese Ferrite (MnFe2O4) Nanoparticles for Their Biocompatibility with Murine Breast Cancer Cells (4T1)

Abstract: Manganese ferrite (MnFe 2 O 4 ) magnetic nanoparticles were successfully prepared by a sol-gel self-combustion technique using iron nitrate and manganese nitrate, followed by calcination at 150˝C for 24 h. Calcined sample was systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and vibrational sample magnetometry (VSM) in order to identify the crystalline phase, functional group, morphology, particle size, shape and mag… Show more

“…The malignant transformation of tumor mainly manifests as an accelerated proliferation of tumor cells, easy invasion and metastasis. The optimal treatment or operation opportunity of breast cancer, one of the frequent malignant tumors in females, is often lost due to tumor cell invasion, reduction in quality of life and shortening of the survival time of patients (10,11). Currently, the development of antitumor drugs mainly focuses on killing tumor cells and inhibiting tumor cell migration (12).…”

“…Various studies on the immune compatibility of NPs have been discussed in detail elsewhere [235]. More recently, 4T1 cells (a murine breast cancer cell line) exposed to below 125 µg/mL of manganese ferrite (MnFe 2 O 4 ) NPs showed biocompatibility [238]. According to Tomitaka et al [239], various ferrite NPs (Fe 3 O 4 , ZnFe 3 O 4 , and NiFe 3 O 4 ) above 100 μg/mL show toxicity against HeLa cell lines.…”

“…Typically, the metal oxide vibrations occur below 1000 cm À1 . 64,65 For spectrum of RhB, the weak intensity band at 2983 cm À1 is associated with the aromatic C-H vibrations, which also appear at 1130 cm À1 (plane bending) and at 682 cm À1 (wagging vibrations). Moreover, the vibration bands in 2928-2869 cm À1 is inferred to the presence of RhB.…”
