Synthesis, characterization and cytotoxic activity of vanadocene dithiocarbamate complexes

Abstract: Water-soluble vanadocene dithiocarbamate complexes were prepared. Spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic data are presented. Cytotoxicity toward leukemia cells MOLT-4 was documented.

“…Other factors, such as the solubility of the drugs in biological or culture media, should be taken into consideration for more detailed studies as well. Importantly, this finding mainly pertains to gold(III) complexes, as this particular trend was not observed in the studies of other dithiocarbamato complexes. This is unsurprising as the mechanism of action in cells would obviously differ with the change in oxidation state, geometry, and electronics of the metal complex involved.…”

“…9 With this in mind, much research was put into thiol-containing metal-dithiocarbamato complexes, which showed anticancer activity with a reduced tendency to cause renal toxicity. 8,10 Other than gold compounds, 11−17 dithiocarbamato complexes with antimony-(III), 18 platinum(II), 19,20 palladium(II), 19,20 vanadium(IV), 21 and ruthenium(II) 22 have been investigated for their cytotoxic activities as well.…”

“…The cytotoxicity of chitosan and its derivatives on L929 cells at a series of concentrations was measured in vitro according to a cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay [7,27,28]. After culturing in RPMI medium (including 1% mixture of penicillin & streptomycin and 10% fetal calf serum) at 37 • C, the L929 cells were transferred to 96-well flat-bottom culture plates at a density of 1.0 × 10 5 cells and incubated at 37 • C (5% CO 2 ).…”
