Synthesis, Characterization and Crystal Structure of Cobalt(II) Complex of a Schiff Base Derived from Isoniazid and Pyridine-4-Carboxaldehyde

Abstract: A new hydrogen bonded Cobalt(II) Schiff base complex, N'-(pyridine-4-carboxaldehyde) isonicotinoylhydrazone Cobalt(II), has been synthesized from isoniazid and pyridine-4-carboxaldehyde and characterized by IR spectroscopy, 1 H-NMR, elemental analysis, TGA and single crystal X-ray structure determination. X-ray crystal structure analysis shows an octahedral complex with a metal centre coordinated to two ligand molecules through the pyridine nitrogen atoms and four water molecules and containing two nitrate gro… Show more

“…Particularly, the strong v(C=N) vibrations in all compounds is a confirmation of the successful condensation reaction (imine bond formation) that lead to the hydrazones formation. This is in agreement with previous reports (Mainsah et al;2019, Ntum et al;2020, Moustafa et al;2022).…”

“…Pyridine and its derivatives are used as an important ingredient in the manufacture of important commodities such as medicines [3], vitamins [4], food flavors [1], [5], pesticides [6], paints [7], dyes and pharmacophore [8,9], rubber products [10], adhesives [11], waterproof fabrics, and solvents [12]. The pyridine ring is found in many essential compounds, such as niacin and pyridoxal [13] which are build the structure of vitamin B, isoniazid [14], as well as other compound with antiviral, anti-HIV [15], anticancer, antitumor [2], antibacterial [16], antimalarial [17], anti-inflammatory [18], antidiabetic [19], and antioxidant properties [20]. The worldwide annual production of pyridine reached up to 20,000 tonnes per year [1].…”

“…Some research was also dedicated to investigation of the influence of Lewis acids on selected properties of Schiff bases, also for molecules containing pyridine moieties [ 44 , 45 , 46 ]. Additionally, ligands based on the Schiff bases with pyridine are also investigated in coordination chemistry [ 47 ].…”
