Synthesis, characterization, and colloidal properties of polythiophene/borax conducting composite

Abstract: In this study, synthesis of polythiophene (PT) and polythiophene/borax pentahydrate (PT/borax) conducting composite were carried out by in‐situ oxidative polymerization. The composite was subjected to various characterization techniques namely: FTIR, particle size, magnetic susceptibility, density, conductivity, dielectric, TGA, XRD, SEM, and zeta (ζ)‐potential measurements. The effects of time, pH, various surfactants, electrolytes and temperature on the ζ‐potential of PT and PT/borax composite were investiga… Show more

“…Similar behaviors are reported in the literature for PT/borax composite system. [25] On the other hand, when the effect of monovalent Cl À À Á and divalent ðSO 2-4 Þ anions on the z-potential values of K49 (aq) dispersions were considered, by the addition of H 3 O + cations into the dispersion medium, z-potential values were observed to shift to the more positive regions, as expected ( Fig. 2(b)).…”

“…On the other hand, almost no change was observed for PTBA which was started from −41 mV at 20 °C and ended up with −37 mV at 65 °C. This enhancement in ζ ‐potential of PABA with rising temperature may be attributed to the decrease in the κ −1 , decrease in the medium viscosity and changing equilibrium between H 2 O molecules and the ionized groups . Different behaviors of PABA and PTBA dispersions with temperature may stem from the Brownian motions.…”
