Synthesis, characterization and bioimaging of fluorescent labeled polyoxometalates

Abstract: A fluorescent labeled Wells-Dawson type POM ({P2W17O61Fluo}) was newly synthesized and characterized by a wide range of analytical methods. {P2W17O61Fluo} was functionalized with fluorescein amine through a stable amide bond, and its long time stability was verified by UV/vis spectroscopic techniques at physiologically relevant pH values. No significant impact on the cell viability or morphology of HeLa cells was observed for POM concentrations up to 100 μg mL(-1). Cellular uptake of fluorescent {P2W17O61Fluo}… Show more

“…The preparation of POM‐based surfactants, incorporating lipophilic pendant chains, for example, has recently shown to enhance cell internalization, thanks to the formation of POM‐based vesicles with improved selectivity against cancer cells . Moreover, a great potential to impart recognition capabilities upon integration of targeting moieties, or to enable fluorescence imaging by adding suitable luminescent tags is envisaged.…”

“…A special focus has been given to their antitumoural activity, as well as its use in complementary/alternative and in emergent cancer therapies such as radiotherapy and PTT, respectively. More recently, the use of POMs as contrast agents for imaging (namely for MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (computed tomography),, fluorescence, and X‐ray) has also been explored. Given the widely known ability of POMs to perform either as a diagnostic tool or as a therapeutic agent, efforts are being made to use them in theranostic systems in order to combine all their potentialities.…”

“…Auch erhielten Verbindungen der Gruppe 6 Einzug in die Medizin, wie Studien von Patzke und ihrem Team zeigten 49. Basierend auf funktionalisierten lakunären Wells‐Dawson‐Polyoxometallaten (POM, K10[α2‐P2W17O61]), ließ sich über eine Amidbindung Fluorescein anbringen (Abbildung 21).…”
