Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial of Schfiff Base from 5-Bromo – Salicylaldehyde and P-Toluidine

Abstract: As pathogens in recent times have developed resistance to the existing antibiotics, the demand for new and more effective antimicrobial agents is a continuous phenomenon. The study involves the synthesis of schiff base from 5-bromo-salicylaldehyde and para-toluidine.The synthesized compounds (5-Bromo -Salicylaldehyde and the Schiff base-N-(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene) Para-toluidine) were evaluated for antimicrobial activities against different bacteria strains using the agar well diffusion method. The 5-brom… Show more

“…The structure of the metal compounds was also well established by UV-visible spectra (Table 3), which demonstrates the electronic solid consideration spectra of the free Schiff base (CCP) and its metal compounds in the wavelength interval of 200 to 900 nm. The first two bands at 23202 and 30485 cm -1 are perhaps attributed to the n-π* and π-π* transitions [25]. The budge of the deliberation bands to higher values (bath chromic budge) and the absence of the gang at 31250 cm -1 in the casing of Mn (II), Fe (III), Cu (II), Zn (II), and Ca (II) composites, and the presence of original gangs in the deliberation spectra of compounds specified to their metal complex formation.…”

“…5-bromosalicylaldehyde containing Schiff base have antitumor activity [ 9 ] is applied for manufacturing anti-cancer drug and Schiff bases has unique biological activity, can be used as low toxic in design and synthesis, and has got several applications like antibacterial and fungal, anti-inflammatory [ 10 ], anti-tubercular [ 11 ], anti-oxidant [ 12 ], and kills parasitic worms [ 13 , 14 ]. A naturally occurring non-essential amino acid, β - alanine form part of carnosine, which in turn helps to buffer acid in muscles [ 15 ]may exhibit tumor progression [ 16 ], which has been most vastly investigated [ 17 ]. β-alanine treatment will bring out anti-tumor results in selective tissues that express carnosine synthase [ 18 ].…”

“…Another noteworthy feature is that they form stable complexes with the majority of transition metal ions, which has made them an important family of ligands in coordination chemistry [5][6][7] as well as inorganic chemistry [8]. Furthermore, they have various applications in biological, clinical, analytical, electrochemistry, medicinal, and industrial studies in addition to they are used as liquid crystals in the field of analytical, medicinal, and polymer chemistry [9][10][11]. Aside from that, Schiff bases and their complexes have biological actions that include antibiotic, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidative, anti-HIV, and anti-cancer properties [12][13][14][15].…”
