Synthesis, Characterization, and Antibacterial Activity of Ag–TiO2–Fe Composite Thin Films

Abstract: Ag–TiO2–Fe composite thin films with different Ag contents are deposited onto a glass substrate by a thermal evaporation method. TiO2, TiO2–Fe, and Ag–TiO2–Fe thin films are characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV–vis–NIR spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) to study the relation between their structural, morphological, optical, and luminescent properties with their antibacterial activities. XRD and Raman measurements show the formation of the an… Show more

“…During the evaporation process the ZnO powder changes state from solid to vapor, it is subdivided giving Zn atoms and oxygen O [9,20]. The Zn condenses on the substrate, while a large amount of oxygen pumped by the pumping group and the amount adsorbed by the layer formed will not be able to give an oxide phases.…”

“…To avoid this potential threat, antibacterial agents are often added to prepare antibacterial air filtration materials. Inorganic compounds such as silver (Ag), [37][38][39] copper (Cu), 40,41 titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), [42][43][44] and some natural plant extracts (e.g., melaleuca alternifolia extract, 45 bitter ginseng extract, 46 eucalyptus leaf extract, 47 mung bean protein, 48 etc.) have been applied in the production of antimicrobial materials.…”
