Synthesis, Characterization, Absorbance, Fluorescence and Non Linear Optical Properties of Some Donor Acceptor Chromophores

Abstract: Three carbazole chromophores featuring dicyano, cyano, ethyl acetate and dimethyl acetate groups as an acceptor moiety with a π-conjugated spacer and N-methyl dibenzo [b]pyrole as donor were synthesized by Knovenagel condensation and characterized by IR, 1 HNMR, 13CNMR, UV-vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, electrochemistry and theoretical B3LYP/6-311G* level whilst NLO properties and spectroscopic quantities were calculated. Calculations showed remarkable trend with HOMO located on the donor moiety and LUMO on t… Show more

“…Figure 6(a) shows the absorption and emission spectra CBZDS (disulfide) and Figure 6 shows the UV-visible spectra of colloidal suspensions of gold nanoparticles coated with CBZDS which showed two characteristic absorption bands of the carbazole hetero-ring with the maxima at 330 and 344 nm attributed to the absorption by two chromophores C=C and C=N, respectively. [30,31] The same bands in the case of CBZDS-coated nanoparticles appears with little bathochromic shift at 331 and 345 nm, respectively. The broad band around 540-545 nm is attributed to the surface plasmon of the gold nanoparticles.…”

“…It has been established theoretically [61] and in two independent studies by de Silva et al [62,63] on novel charge transfer molecular systems and experimentally [64] that the total hyperpolarizabilities are inversely proportional to the energy gaps. That is, the smaller energy gaps encourage the eventuality of charge transfer, which in turn render higher NLO characters.…”

“…The carboxyl-containing CRA derivative, CRA-COOH, [29,30] and the hydroxyl-containing functional compounds, Cz-OH, [31,32] Cz-CSN-OH, [33][34][35][36][37] Cz-SN-OH, [38] Cz-MN-OH, [28,38] and Cz-CMA-OH, [39] were synthesized according to literature procedures. Their chemical structures are shown in Scheme 1 (for detailed synthesis and data analysis, see ESI †).…”
