Synthesis, characterisation, and feasibility studies on the use of vanadium tellurate(vi) as a cathode material for aqueous rechargeable Zn-ion batteries

Abstract: (NH4)4{(VO2)2[Te2O8(OH)2]}·2H2O is tested as a cathode in an aqueous Zn-ion battery for the first time, showing a discharge capacity of 283 mA h g−1 in half-cells and excellent capacity retention (91%) in concentration cells after 20 cycles.

“…Layered oxidotellurates(VI) comprising an alkali metal (or ammonium) and a transition metal M, such as (NH 4 ) 4 (VO 2 ) 2 Te 2 O 8 (OH) 2 Á2H 2 O (Nagarathinam et al, 2022), Li 2 Ni 2 TeO 6 (Grundish et al, 2019), Na 3 Ni 1.5 TeO 6 (Grundish et al, 2020) or K 2 M 2 TeO 6 (M = Ni, Mg, Zn, Co, Cu; Masese et al, 2018) are considered to be promising battery materials. In the quest for new representatives of this group of materials comprising K and Fe III , we obtained a phase under hydrothermal conditions with a supposed composition of K 12 Fe III 6 Te VI 4 O 27 Á3H 2 O.…”
