Imidazole and its derivatives are the pharmacological significant scaffolds with the broad spectrum of activities can be synthesized in the laboratory in the single step by the action of the catalyst. The current review summarizes the role of the imidazole and its derivatives during the last decade (2005)(2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010)(2011)(2012)(2013)(2014) for the treatment of many diseases. Review highlights their significant contribution towards the drug development for the treatment of some fatal diseases like HIV, cancer, tuberculosis and hepatitis C. As imidazole and its derivatives continue to play an important role for the treatment of many diseases so there is a need to trigger research in this field. The synthesis of a novel dihydropyridine derivatives bearing dimedone as an excellent precursor has been achieved by applying three component Hantzsch condensation. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, NMR, Mass spectra and also by Elemental analyses. All synthesized compounds undergo docking studies and biological screening for antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and fungal species. Among all the tested compounds, it was found that compound 3d, 3e, 3g and 3i revealed better activities against the Gram-positive rather than the Gram-negative bacteria whereas compounds 3c, 3d, 3e, 3g and 3i showed best docking score in docking studies.
