CaAl2O4:0.1% La nanoparticles doped with different concentrations of Mg were prepared using the sol–gel method and annealed at 400 °C, 500 °C, and 800 °C, respectively. The prepared nanophosphors show a highly crystalline orthorhombic structure with a crystallite size of about 81.2 nm. The optimum concentration of Mg dopants is about 0.7 mol%. The thermoluminescence (TL) glow curve of 11 Gy of beta-ray irradiated CaAl2O4:0.1% La:0.7% Mg measured at heating rates of 5 K/s has 16 overlapping glow peaks. The TL kinetic parameters for the prepared nanoparticles were evaluated using two different methods and they exhibited good agreement. Moreover, the linearity dose response of dosimetric peaks follows a good linearity up to 220 Gy in nanophosphor. The minimum detectable dose of the prepared nanophosphor was 125.7 mGy. The results of the prepared nanophosphors suggest good candidates for dosimetric applications. Graphical abstract

In the current study, the effects of heat treatment on the thermoluminescence (TL) and structural properties of zinc blend samples were studied. The samples were annealed after being heated for different time periods from 2 up to 10 hours. The wurtzite hexagonal phase was observed upon heat treatment; however, its percentage decreased with the treatment period. The morphology of ZnS particles was studied by the HR-TEM analysis and it displayed an aggregated ZnS nanoparticles with almost uniform shape and size. The TL-glow curves for each sample were analysed using the CGCD method. Six trapping peaks exist between 0.98 and 1.45 eV through the deconvolution of the glow curves. The number of peaks were increased to 8 peaks for the fourth treatment, located between 0.95 and 1.56 eV. The activation energies and the frequency factors for getting traps were evaluated.

The thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics of nano α-Al2O3 (40 nm) under varying heating rates have been investigated. The presented data reveal a significant displacement of glow peaks to higher temperatures as the heating rate increases, accompanied by variations in the height of the TL peaks. When the glow curve plot represents the TL intensity in counts/K against temperature (K), there is a noticeable shift towards higher temperatures with increasing heating rate. The activation energy (E) calculated using the two different heating rate methods is 1.08±0.7 eV. The ln(T2M/β) graph versus 1/kTM yields an activation energy value of E = 1.15±0.1 eV. This result agrees with data from the existing literature supporting the observed thermoluminescent behaviour of nano α-Al2O3 (40 nm) at different heating rates. The TL response and luminescence efficiency are examined in relation to changes in heating rate, revealing insights into thermal quenching phenomena. Additionally, activation energy calculations based on different heating rates are explored to understand the underlying mechanisms influencing TL behavior.
