Synthesis and thermal properties of novel multiblock biodegradable copolymers derived from polyethylene glycol, ε -caprolactone and p-dioxanone

Abstract: Multiblock copolymers from polyethylene glycol (PEG), ε-caprolactone (CL), and p-dioxanone (PDO) were synthesized and characterized. Triblock copolymers were first synthesized from PEG with number-averaged molecular weights (M n ) of 3000, 4000, and 15000 Daltons, and ε-caprolactone in the presence of Sn(Oct) 2 .1 H-NMR spectra of these copolymers were recorded. Thermal behaviour and thermal stability of these copolymers were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and TGA thermograms, respectivel… Show more

“…As other aliphatic poly(ester-ether), PPDO has drawbacks of low crystallization rate and low melt strength, which limits its applications and processing. Several approaches, such as copolymerization with other monomers and blending with other polymers, have been developed to improve the properties of PPDO. The addition of inorganic nanoparticles is also an attractive way. …”

“…4. As reported for many copolymers [38][39][40][41], moieties in a copolymer exhibit decomposition curves as if they are alone. TGA has showed interesting properties of the copolymers indicating continuous weight loss starting from 180 °C to nearly 510 °C with derivatives at 232 °C and 417 °C through two steps (Fig.…”
