Synthesis and surface properties of semi-interpenetrating fluorine-containing polyacrylate and epoxy resin networks

Abstract: Semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (SemiIPNs) based on fluorine-containing polyacrylate and epoxy resin were synthesized by the simultaneous polymerization of fluorine-containing acrylate and epoxy resin. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses proved that the fluorine-containing groups have been introduced into Semi-IPNs successfully. In addition, XPS analysis intuitively showed that the fluorine content of the film-air interface of the interpenet… Show more

“…In Figure 2a, fluorosilanization of PMMA resulted in the appearance of two new peaks in the C1s spectrum at 290.69 and 293.05 eV which are associated with CF2 and CF3, respectively. [ 69,70 ] These peaks confirm the formation of FS layer with the linear formula of CF 3 (CF 2 ) 5 CH 2 CH 2 SiCl 3 as the precursor. The O1s spectrum of plain PMMA surface in Figure 2b can be deconvoluted into primarily two peaks of CO at ≈533.3 eV and CO at 532 eV.…”

“…The obtained interpenetrated polymer network (IPN) coatings exhibited lower water diffusion coefficients and significant improvement in anticorrosive properties against hygrothermal cycling. Besides siloxanes, fluorine-containing segments were also used to enhance coatings' hydrophobicity and barrier properties [9,10].…”
