Synthesis and study of a nickel(II) complex containing a macrocyclic ligand derived from 1,3-diaminopropane and methyl vinyl ketone1

Abstract: The macrocyclic complex IV can be synthesized from 1,3-diaminopropane and methyl vinyl ketone in the presence of both Ni(I1) and hydrogen ions. Several derivatives of IV are described including two where the macrocyclic ligand must be present in a folded configuration within a hexacoordinate complex. Evidence is presented which indicates that species IIB and IV have a greater tendency to accept fifth and sixth ligands than do complexes IIA and 111. The detailed description of the separation and purification of… Show more

“…Bond distances and angles involving non-hydrogen atoms are listed in Table3. The three Ni-N bond lengths are within a narrow range [2.059(5)-2.080(6) A] and are somewhat shorter than the average Ni-N bond distances found in other nickel@) complexes with 1,4,7-triazacyclononane 25 and its N-methylatedderivative. "^^^ As far as the Ni-0 bond distances are concerned, the average Ni-O(oxa1ate) distance [2.098(18) A] is very similar to that of Ni-O(water) [2.120(5) for Ni-0(3)].…”

“…Axial ligand addition reactions of square planar nickel(II) and copper(II) azamacrocyclic complexes to form six coordinate octahedral complexes have drawn significant interest [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. So, some diastereoisomeric square planar nickel(II) complexes containing isomeric Me 8 [14]anes, L A , L B and L C [9] were prepared.…”
