“…We have previously shown that tripyridyl tripodal tetradentate amine ligands confer significant stability to complexes containing chelated hydrogencarbonato and hydrogenphosphato ligands. With this in mind, we attempted to prepare and isolate a chelated hydrogensulfato complex starting from [Co(pmap)(O 2 SO 2 )]ClO 4 , given that there is only one structurally characterised example of such a chelate in the literature, namely the Zr(IV) complex [(L OEt ) 2 -Zr 2 (SO 4 ) 2 (HSO 4 ) 2 ], where L OEt is the Kläui ligand [Co(g 5 -C 5 H 5 ){P(O) (OEt) 2 } 3 ] À [26] The pmap, rather than the pmea, complex was chosen, as the analogous chelated carbonate complex [Co(pmap) (O 2 CO)] + showed the greatest stability in strongly acidic solution of all the carbonate complexes prepared. Cautious dissolution of [Co(pmap)(O 2 SO 2 )]ClO 4 (63 mg) in concentrated H 2 SO 4 (1.00 mL) gave an intensely deep purple solution.…”
