Synthesis and Structures of Cadmium(II) Complexes with (η6‐Benzenecarboxylate)tricarbonylchromium

Abstract: The reaction of (benzoic acid)tricarbonylchromium [(η6‐C6H5COOH)Cr(CO)3] with cadmium acetate in methanol or DMF led to the formation of the dinuclear cadmium compounds [Cd2{(η6‐C6H5COO)Cr(CO)3}4(MeOH)4] (1) or [Cd2{(η6‐C6H5COO)Cr(CO)3}4(DMF)4] (2) containing four organometallic ligands with four methanol or DMF molecules coordinated to the cadmium atoms. The reaction of (benzoic acid)tricarbonylchromium [(η6‐C6H5COOH)Cr(CO)3] and cadmium acetate with 1,10‐phenanthroline (1,10‐phen) afforded the dinuclear cadm… Show more

“…In addition, the structural chemistry of such compounds has also attracted interest, particularly in terms of their supramolecular organization in the solid state. Among the organometallic motifs used for such purposes, metallocenes in general and ferrocene in particular have been widely studied. Investigations on other motifs such as the so-called piano-stool, [(η 5 -C 5 H 5 )M(CO) 3 ; (η 6 -arene)M(CO) 3 ] are still rare. Over the past few years, the compounds containing arene-tricarbonylchromium complexes [(η 6 -arene)Cr(CO) 3 ] and cyclopentadienyl-manganese tricarbonyl complexes (η 5 -C 5 H 5 )Mn(CO) 3 have been attracting significant attention. There are several reasons for this, including the fact that they serve as air- and moisture-stable building blocks in organometallic chemistry. Cymantrene itself is easy to functionalize and also is nontoxic.…”

“…For instance, in the presence of 4,4 0 -bipyridyl, hydrated Cd(OAc) 2 reacts with (Z 6 -C 6 H 5 CO 2 H)Cr(CO) 3 to afford the bipyridyl-bridged [Cd 2 {(Z 6 -C 6 H 5 COO)Cr(CO) 3 } 4 (4,4 0 -bipy) 2 ] n , while MeOH, DMF or 1,0-phenanthroline led to formation of the molecular [Cd 2 {(Z 6 -C 6 H 5 COO)Cr(CO) 3 } 4 (D) m ] (D = DMF, MeOH, m = 4; D = 1,10-phen, m = 2). 41 Zinc complexes of the [(Z 6 -C 6 H 5 CO 2 )Cr(CO) 3 ] À ligand have also been reported. 42 The trinuclear imido-nitrido titanium complex [{Ti(Z 5 -C 5 Me 5 )(m-NH)} 3 (m 3 -N)] has been shown to form adducts with CdX 2 (X = Cl, I); 43 Potentially 'energetic' complexes based on 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (4-ATZ) have been described viz.…”

“…The use of organometallic ligands for the design of new materials often leads to the formation of heteropolymetallic species benefiting from the specific properties of the various metallic centers . This field is dominated by ferrocenyl-, (η 5 -cyclopentadienyl)metal-, and (η 6 -benzene)metal-containing pendant or linkage groups. The commonly reported properties are, for instance, luminescence (also including near-IR emission), magneticity, catalysis, and recently theranostics. , Coordination polymers, , metal organometallic frameworks (MOMFs), , and nanocomposites, which are the entries to functional materials, have also been prepared using these types of ligands. Concurrently, the synthesis and investigations of other types of organometallic ligands were reported, and multiple functional materials, including MOMFs, have been designed.…”
