Complexes of Co(II), [Co(C26H24N8O2)]·(ClO4)2·(H2O)2 (1), and Cu(II), [Cu(C26H23N8O2)]·(ClO4) (2), have been synthesized. The prepared two compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1 with the following unit cell parameters: a = 8.880 (5) Å, b = 10.529 (5) Å, c = 18.430 (5) Å, α = 99.407 (5)°, β = 102.174 (5)°, γ = 100.652 (5)°, V = 1618.2 (13) Å3, Z = 2, T = 293(2), μ(MoKα) = 0.77 mm-1, Dcalc = 1.582 g/cm3, 16135 reflections measured (5.050° ≤ 2q ≤ 59.152°), 7648 unique, Rint = 0.034 which were used in all calculations. The final R1 was 0.066 (I ≥ 2σ(I)) and wR2 was 0.22 (all data). The compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with the following unit cell parameters : a = 11.652 (5) Å, b = 16.540 (5) Å, c = 14.512 (5) Å, β = 93.495 (5)°, V = 2791.6 (18) Å3, Z = 4, T = 293(2), μ(MoKα) = 1.05 mm-1, Dcalc = 1.768 g/cm3, 15592 reflections measured (5.624° ≤ 2θ ≤ 58.804°), 6630 unique, Rint = 0.025 which were used in all calculations. The final R1 was 0.050 (I ≥ 2σ(I)) and wR2 was 0.144 (all data). In both complexes, the ligand acts in a tridentate fashion. In the structure of the mononuclear complex 1, the Co(II) cation is coordinated by two ligand molecules. The basal plane around the Co(II) cation is occupied by two pyridine nitrogen atoms and two carbonyl oxygen atoms. Two imino nitrogen atoms occupy the apical positions of the distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The mononuclear 2 consists of a Cu(II) coordinated by one ligand and one monodeprotonated ligand molecule. The metal center lies in a distorted square bipyramidal environment. The basal plane around the Cu(II) is occupied by two pyridine nitrogen atoms and two carbonyl oxygen atoms, the apical position being occupied by the two imino nitrogen atoms.

“…[44] Isonicotinic acid derivatives and its hydrazide show a broad spectrum of biological activity, such as antibacterial and antiviral properties. [45] Iproniazide, an isoniazid derivative, originally used as an antituberculosis medicine, showed mood elevation in depressed patients, which makes it the first MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitor. [46] Due to the broad spectrum of biological activity, especially antimicrobial activity of isonicotinic acid [44,45] and 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives, [10 -15] as well as that of hydrazide-hydrazones, reported by our group earlier, [47][48][49][50][51][52] we decided to combine these two pharmacophores in one chemical structure with the hope of obtaining interesting antimicrobial agents.…”

Thirteen new 3‐acetyl‐2,5‐disubstituted‐1,3,4‐oxadiazoline derivatives were synthesized from corresponding hydrazide‐hydrazones of isonicotinic acid in the reaction with acetic anhydride. The obtained compounds were identified with the use of spectral methods (IR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, MS). In vitro antimicrobial activity screening of synthesized compounds against a panel of bacteria and fungi revealed interesting antibacterial and antifungal activity of tested 1,3,4‐oxadiazoline derivatives, which is comparable to that of commonly used antimicrobial agents.

Three binuclear and one mononuclear cobalt-(III) dioximates with the compositions [Co 2 (dmgH) 4 (bpy)-Cl 2 ]•1.5dmf (1), [Co 2 (nioxH) 4 (bpy)Cl 2 ]•0.5H 2 O (2), [Co 2 (dmgH) 4 (bpe)Cl 2 ]•0.5H 2 O (3), and [Co(dmgH) 2 (bpy)-Cl]•H 2 O (4) (where dmgH 2 = dimethylglyoxime, nioxH 2 = 1,2-cyclohexanedionedioxime, bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine, bpe = 1,2bis(4-pyridyl)ethane, and dmf = N,N-dimethylformamide)were prepared by replacement of water molecule in Co(III) mononuclear dioximates by bpy and bpe ligands. All compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic techniques. In all complexes Co(III) atoms have an identical octahedral N 5 Cl environment formulated by four nitrogen atoms of two mono-deprotonated oxime ligands in a square planar mode, and the nitrogen atom of the bpy/bpe molecules and chloride atom in the axial positions. In 1−3 bpy/bpe exobidentate spacer ligands serve as bridging "rods" and unite two planar cobalt(III) bis-dioximates in binuclear complex with wheel-and-axle topology. The packing of bulky binuclear complexes results in formation of porous structure with hourglass-like channels of diameter ca. 0.6−1.3 nm in the crystal of compound 1 and smaller cavities in 2. The sorption properties for 1 were also measured. The π•••π stacking interaction between monodentate bpy ligands of mononuclear complexes 4 emulate supramolecular binuclear assembly with wheel-and-axle topology.
