Synthesis and Spectroscopy of LiClO4 Complexes of (–)-Sparteine, 2-Methyl- and 2-Oxosparteine, and 2-Cyano-2-methylsparteine

Abstract: Complexes formed between (-)-sparteine, 2-methyl- and 2-oxosparteine and 2-cyano-2- methylsparteine with lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) were obtained in the solid state. The complexes, C15H26N2LiClO4, C16H28N2LiClO4, C15H24N2OLiClO4, and C17H27N3Li2Cl2O8 have been isolated and characterised by UV/vis, NMR, and IR, spectroscopy and by their mass spectra. Three of the four complexes present the 1:1 stoichiometry, while the 2-cyano-2-methylsparteine complex has the 1:2 stoichiometry.

“…115 Similar complexes of 2-methylsparteine with copper(II) chloride and cobalt(II) chloride were characterised with the aid of lowresolution mass spectrometry, IR spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy in both the UV-visible and near-IR regions. 116 Rate and equilibrium constants have been measured, and heats of formation calculated, for 1 : 1 and 2 : 1 complexes of various sparteine-derived lactams and thiolactams 305 with copper(II) ions. 117 Metal complexes of (−)-sparteine with more exotic anions include [(−)-sparteine-Li] + [P(BH 3 )(Ph)Bu t ] − , which contains an enantiomerically pure P-chiral anion.…”

“…Complexes of this kind have been reported with a pseudo-tetrahedral metal ion environment [16][17][18]. Owing to our interest in sparteine and -isosparteine complexes [19][20][21][22], we have undertaken a project aimed at characterizing the spectral, analytical and structural properties of copper(II) complexes of (À)-sparteine and -isosparteine.…”

“…We also observed the low frequency C-H stretching bands in the region of 2800-2500 cm À1 called ''trans bands'' which are typical for sparteine that depends on its conformational and configurational arrangement. 9 Raman spectra of CNP, (À)-SP/CNP and (+)-SP/CNP are shown in Fig. 2D.…”
