This study aimed to synthesize new polymeric additives including homo-and co-polymers based on 4-methyl-2-oxo-2Hchromen-7-yl methacrylate monomer and evaluating their activity as potential antimicrobials and as pour-point depressants for modification of waxy crude oil rheology. The resultant compounds were characterized by their IR, 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR spectral data. The formation of the new polymers, namely, poly(7-methacryloyloxy-4-methylcoumarin) [poly(MAOMC)] homo-polymer, poly(7-methacryloyloxy-4-methylcoumarin-co-vinylacetate) [poly(MAOMC)-co-(VA)] and poly(7methacryloyloxy-4-methylcoumarin-co-octadecyl 4-(methacryloyloxy)benzoate) [poly(MAOMC)-co-(OMAOB)] copolymers was based on free radical polymerization. The polymerization reaction was carried at 70±2°C using 2,2'azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator and dimethylformamide (DMF)/toluene as a solvent in the case of homo-polymer [poly(MAOMC)] and co-polymer [poly(MAOMC)-co-(VA)], while polymerization proceeds at the same temperature by using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator and toluene as a solvent in the case of co-polymer [poly(MAOMC)-co-(OMAOB)]The activities of the resultant compounds as potential antibacterial agents were evaluated against the two Gram-positive (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus), the four Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhimrium) bacterial strains, and as antifungal agents against two fungal species (Aspergillus flavus and Candids albicans). The results showed that MAOMC monomer and poly(MAOMC)-co-(OMAOB) copolymer indicated moderate potent activity towards the bacterial and fungal strains used. At the other extreme, the influence of coumarin and octadecyl benzoate based compounds on the pour-point depression and on the rheological properties of crude oil with low asphaltene content was studied. The results indicated that all three polymers exhibited very good efficiency as additives to improve the flow-ability of the tested crude oil. Moreover, the poly(MAOMC)-co-(OMAOB) co-polymer was found to exhibit the highest performance to reduce and depress the pour-point of the tested crude oil and decrease the viscosity to a large extent due to the presence of two aromatic units with the long aliphatic carbon chain in its structure.

The recent development of the “eco-friendly” current has brought to the attention of researchers natural dyes that are biodegradable, do not cause allergies and generally have anti-UV protection, and antioxidant and antibacterial properties. In this study, we aimed to obtain hybrid materials of the dye–host matrix type, by using the sol–gel process. The silica network was generated by tetraethylorthosilicates and modified with organic siloxane derivatives: phenyltriethoxysilane, 3-glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane, dimethoxydimethylsilane and dimethoxydiphenylsilane. The nanocomposites obtained by embedding curcumin in siloxane matrices were deposited on polyester fabric and evaluated for their properties, relative to the type of organic network modifier used. Fabrics covered with curcuminoid hybrid systems provide a hydrophobic surface, have fluorescent properties and a UPF +50, and, therefore, they can be used in various fields where it is necessary for textiles to provide signaling, self-cleaning or protection properties against ultraviolet radiation. The coated textile materials have very good resistance properties after several repeated washing cycles, and maintain the original UV protection factor at high values even after washing or during rubbing tests.

Synthesis of pyrazolone derivatives of coumarin as anticancer agents

Pursuing on our efforts towards searching for efficient anticancer agents herein we have designed and synthesized pyrazolone derivatives of 7‐amino 4‐methyl coumarin and 6‐amino coumarin. Anticancer activity of all the compounds were performed against lungs cancer cell line (A549) and breast cancer cell line (MCF‐7) using MTT assay. Out of all the compounds, compounds 17 c and 19 b exhibited remarkable activity with IC50 value of 1.22 μM and 1.66 μM against lungs cancer cell line (A549) breast cancer cell line (MCF‐7) respectively. Consequently, both compounds 17 c and compound 19 b were selected to study their cytotoxicity mechanism using different assays which includes EtBr/AO assay in respective cell, quantification of ROS using DCFH‐DA dye. To explore the behavioral and selective properties of the synthesized molecules, experimental analysis was complemented with computational methods. The electronic and structural parameters for both compound 17 c and 19 b were calculated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and correlated with the observed biological activity. Molecular docking was conducted to explore the interaction of compounds 17 c and 19 b with pivotal apoptotic genes, namely p53 and caspase 3. Compound 17 c exhibited docking scores of −8.6 and −8.4 kcal/mol for p53 and caspase 3, while compound 19 b showed scores of −9.3 kcal/mol for both genes, significantly surpassing fluorouracil. Hence, compound 17 c and 19 b can be pursued for further studies, including molecular and In Vivo investigations.
