Synthesis and simultaneous self‐assembly of multiblock fluorinated polyurethane in iniferter polymerization

Abstract: A multiblock fluorinated polyurethane was synthesized using tetraphenylethane‐based polyurethane as macroiniferter to free‐radically polymerize 1H,1H,3H‐trihydro perfluoro‐2,4‐dimethylpentyl methacrylate (FDPMA). Simultaneous self‐assembly occurred in FDPMA polymerization process and various nanostructures, like multicore particles, formed depending on FDPMA concentration. Fluorophobic effect and the cooperation of the fluorinated blocks with polyurethane blocks are demonstrated to be the main contribution. Th… Show more

“…The molecular weights are relative to polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) standards. interface, [30][31][32] therefore the enhanced microphase separation results in a lower T g of the so segment of PU-F than that of the control PU. Zwitterions in block polymers usually play the role of a "binder" between two phases and cause strong microphase separation.…”

“…This polymer self-assembled into various nanostructures in the course of the polymerization. 66 The incompatibility of FDPMA and PUMI lead to significant decrease of the solubility of PUMI in DMF with the addition of FDPMA monomer, and drove the formation of multicore particles. These morphologies evolved into arrays of disk-like structures, while the smallest particles formed nanofibers.…”

“…According to the characterizations above, we could sketch the possible preparation scheme as polymerization-induced self-assembly. [34][35][36][37][38] The initial monomers of PPD and TPC as well as mPEG were soluble in the solvent of NMP while their polymer of PPTA wasn't. Meanwhile, PPTA had strong tendency to form oriented microstructures as a typical liquid crystal polymer (Fig.…”
