Synthesis and properties of RDX/GAP nano-composite energetic materials

Abstract: Fuel or oxidant composites were trapped in the holes of poly(azide glycidyl ether) (GAP) gel skeleton network on nano-scale, which could effectively increase the contact area, decrease the transport distance, and make the energy release more close to the ideal state to achieve the maximum power of energetic materials. In this study, GAP gels with three dimensional nano-network structures were prepared by sol-gel method using GAP as precursors and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) as curing agent. The obtained g… Show more

“…Now, some nanocomposites using energetic materials as matrix have been fabricated, such as nitrocellulose (NC)/ HMX, 26 glycidyl azide polymer (GAP)/HMX, 27 and RDX/ GAP. 28 Because it is cheap and easily available, NC is the most widely used as the matrix. However, because NC has a high glass-transition temperature (T g ) and there are lots of rings in its molecules, NC is very crisp and NC-based composites are of very poor mechanical properties in a cold environment, which limits the application of NC-based composites.…”
