Synthesis and properties of quasi‐rigid polyesters containing 2,5‐disubstituted tetrahydropyran rings in their main chains

Abstract: A polyester composed of trans-2,5-linked tetrahydropyran rings (4 t) was synthesized by direct polycondensation of trans-5-hydroxytetrahydropyran-2-carboxylic acid (5 t) using N-methyl-2-chloropyridinium iodide or triphenylphosphine and hexachloroethane as condensing agents in pyridine at 25 or 50 "C.
