Synthesis and Properties of Polycarbosilanes Having Lactose‐Derived Structures

Abstract: A polycarbosilane having lactose‐derived structures was synthesized, and its thermal property, cytotoxicity, chemical crosslinking, and protein adsorption properties were investigated. The polycarbosilane (PSB‐Lac) was prepared by a thiol‐ene reaction between precursor poly(1‐(3‐butenyl)‐1‐methylsilacyclubane) (PSB) and heptaacetyl lactose that carried a thiol group at the anomeric position, and the successive deprotection of the acetyl groups. The lactose introduction efficiency determined by 1H NMR measureme… Show more

“…Silacyclobutane rings with Si−Cl side groups can be synthesized through Grignard chemistry and further functionalized to contain various chemical moieties. Some examples include 5membered cyclic carbonates for electrolyte applications, 157,158 carbohydrate derivatives for bioapplications, 159,160 epoxyfunctionalized polycarbosilanes for elastomer development, 161 and styrene or benzocyclobutene derivative low-dielectric insulating materials. 162 BCPs continue to be an area of interest, particularly synthesizing polystyrene/polycarbosilane blocks through anionic ROP, as they can undergo phase separation into microdomains.…”

“…This emphasis has been driven in part by the substantial physicochemical properties of these materials, including good solution processability an effective delocalization between respective 𝜎 and 𝜋 orbitals of Si and double bonds. It has also been stimulated by potential applications of polycarbosilanes as diverse as preceramic material, [2,3] carbon dioxide-selective membrane, [4] antibacterial agent, [5] stationary phase in gas chromatography, [6] protein adsorbent, [7] catalytic support, [8] and in various healthcare, drug delivery and biomedical engineering applications. [9,10] Poly(silylenevinylene)s (PSVs), synthesized via polyhydrosilylation of alkyne and silane monomers, constitute an important sub-set of polycarbosilanes, featuring an exclusive alternate arrangement of silylenevinylene bonds.…”
