Synthesis and properties of poly(urethane-imide) interpenetrating network membranes

Abstract: Poly(urethane-imide) (PUI) membranes are prepared by blending polyurethane (PU) prepolymer with different ratio of poly(amide acid) (PAA). PU prepolymer are synthesized by two-stages process with hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), 4,4 0 -dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate (H 12 MDI) and 1,4-butane diol (1,4-BD). While 4,4 0 -diaminodiphenyl ether (ODA) and 3,3 0 -4,4 0 -benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA) are reacted to forming the polyimide (PI) oligomer solution of poly(amide acid) (PAA). “…The FTIR spectra of PIFs before and after postcure are presented in Fig. 2 (a) and (b) 16–18. Though the feed weight ratios of PAPI to the first solution were in the range of 0.50–1.10, the characteristic absorption peaks for PIFs before and after postcure are similar.…”

“…Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the compressive strength of PI‐2 improved compared with PI‐0 even though the density of PI‐2 is less than PI‐0. This reinforcement effect can be assigned to the fine dispersion and high orientation of chopped CF in the cell arrises that significantly improved the strength of cell skeletons, leading to a considerable portion of load transferred from the matrix to the chopped carbon fibers . On the other hand, the improved cell size distribution and density also play an important role in enhancing compressive strength of composite foams.…”

“…It also possesses remarkable heat resistance and excellent mechanical, electrical and chemical and durability properties and has been widely applied in aerospace and microelectronic industries at elevated temperatures (11,12). Numerous studies have been carried out to understand their both chemical and physical properties and structures (13)(14)(15). Moreover, their thermal stabilities have been studied thus far (16,17).…”
