Synthesis and properties of microencapsulated phase change material with a urea–formaldehyde resin shell and paraffin wax core

Abstract: During this study, paraffin wax with low melting point was encapsulated in a urea-formaldehyde resin to prepare a novel microencapsulated phase change material (Micro-P6) for temperature regulation and thermal energy storage. The structure and properties of Micro-P6 were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimeter, laser particle size analyzer, thermogravimetric analysis, contact angle analysis, and scanning electron microscope. The results indicated that t… Show more

“…Although waste polyethylene wax and its blends have not been extensively studied in the literature, there are many studies regarding various other waxes and their blends with other material. [4][5][6][7] Paraffin wax has been used as model systems for polyethylene for studying electrical conductivity, and the conductivity of wax has been studied since 1932. 8 The blends of wax and polyethylene have drawn attention to themselves since they have many valuable properties such as lightweight, good processability, and low cost.…”

“…The prepared micro-PCMs have a latent heat of approximately 121.42 J/g compared to the 179.57 J/g of pure PW. The latent heat of the micro-PCMs changed slightly because of the decrease in PW content in the core prepared with micro-PCMs [1,9,29,30,34]. Encapsulation ratio (ER) is one of the important parameters in the study of encapsulated phase change materials for TES.…”
