Synthesis and Properties of Biodegradable Hydrogel Based on Polysaccharide Wound Dressing

Abstract: The metabolic disorder of the wound microenvironment can lead to a series of serious symptoms, especially chronic wounds, which result in significant pain in patients. At present, there is no effective and widely used wound dressing. Therefore, it is important to develop new multifunctional wound dressings. Hydrogel is an ideal wound dressing for medical nursing because of its abilities to absorb exudate and maintain wound wetting, its excellent biocompatibility, and its ability to provide a moist environment … Show more

“…The appropriate degradation properties of hydrogels are critical for biological applications. 38 Therefore, the degradation experiments were conducted to estimate the weight remaining ratios (R wr ) of KGM/PAM/Ga 3+ hydrogels. The R wr of K-x-P-Ga-0 hydrogels was approximate 34.0-37.5% after immersing in PBS (pH 7.2) for 72 h (Figure S3a), indicating the poor stability of KGM/PAM hydrogels.…”

“…The main function of traditional dressings is to absorb exudates and fluids of wounds. [64][65][66] However, owing to the difficulty in maintaining a moist wound environment, traditional dressings easily stick to the wound surface. This will cause secondary injury without an antibacterial effect.…”

“…Natural biomass extracts have become a good alternative to organic polymers due to their excellent biodegradability, biocompatibility, and low cost [7][8] . Shao et al [9] prepared a biodegradable wound dressing based on polysaccharides, which effectively avoided the irritation problem of traditional dressings and provided ideas for wound healing. Wan et al [10] loaded emodin, a natural herbal ingredient, into the chitosan-based hydrogel to improve the healing effect of the hydrogel.…”
