Synthesis and properties of alumina-hydroxyapatite composites from natural phosphate for phenol removal from water

Abstract: Phenol is very abundant in the aquatic environment and therefore requires an effective treatment using porous and low-cost adsorbents. Alumina-hydroxyapatite composites were prepared from natural phosphate ore in the presence of Al 3+ ions via a wet-chemical method. Porous composites were characterized and the Al-surface modification was produced by facile and inexpensive route to uptake adjacent toxic species. Supplementary active sites on their surface may improve their phenol remediation. Nanocomposites exh… Show more

“…In recent years, heavy metal ions removal from wastewater has been achieved using different types of nanomaterials such as graphene flakes (Kong et al 2021), activated carbon (Nga et al 2021), carbon nanotubes (Vesali-Nased et al 2021), clays (Huang et al 2020;Yadav et al 2019), zeolites (Joseph et al 2020), bio-adsorbents (Chen et al 2021), silica , hydroxyapatite (HAp), and apatites (Duyen et al 2018;Phuong et al 2020;Nam et al 2021), where the apatite-based nanostructures are non-toxic and environmentally friendly sorbents. This material is well known for the water remediation from pollutants, including pharmaceutical-based compounds (Harja and Ciobanu 2018;Cleibson et al 2021), organic aromatic pollutants (Bouiahya et al 2019;, and heavy metal ions (Duyen et al 2018;Phuong et al 2020;Nam et al 2021). Moreover, this material exhibits very high stability in extreme thermal conditions and therefore can be applied in various industrial fields (Ramachandra et al 1997).…”
