Synthesis and properties of a high-pressure rutile-type AlAsO4

Abstract

AuszugBei 90 kbar und 900 °C wurde eine Rutiltyp-Modifikation von A1AS0 4 mit o = 4,359 Â, c = 2,815 À und D -5,15 g/cm 3 synthetisch hergestellt. Ihre Brechungsindizes sind ra, = 1,950 ± 0,005, n a = 1,905 ± 0,005. Die Molrefraktion der Rutiltyp-Modifikation ist um 10,4°/ 0 geringer als diejenige der Quarztyp-Form. Das steht im Einklang mit der Voraussage von DACHILLE und ROY, wonach die Molrefraktion beim Übergang von der Vierer-zur Sechserkoordination um etwa 12°/o abnehmen soll.Die Absorptionsbande im Ultrarot ist beim Rutiltyp um 23°/ 0 nach größeren Wellenlängen hin verschoben. Verschiebungen ähnlicher Größe sind bei den Rutil-und Quarz-Modifikationen von Si0 2 und GeO a zu beobachten. AbstractA rutile-type AlAs0 4 polymorph with α = 4.359 Á and c = 2.815 À has been synthesized at 90 kbar and 900 C. The density is 5.15 g/cm 3 , an increase of 54 per cent over the quartz modification.The indices of refraction of the rutile form of A1AS0 4 are ε = 1.950,Ω= 1.905, both i 0.005. Molar refraction data for the quartz and rutile polymorphs of AlAs0 4 show a percentage decrease of 10.4 relative to the quartz form and fulfill the Dachille-Roy prediction relating molar refraction and cation coordination.The main absorption band of the infra-red spectra of the quartz and rutile forms of A1AS0 4 shows a shift of 23 per cent in the direction of increasing wavelength with increasing cation coordination. A corresponding shift of the same magnitude is shown by the quartz and rutile forms of SiO a and Ge0 2 .
