Synthesis and photophysical properties of a highly luminescent Eu III -containing hybrid thin film

Abstract: A luminescent thin film, Eu@glass, has been prepared on the surface of glass substrates from a silylated diamidopyridyl ligand L and the complex [Eu(dbm) 3 (H 2 O) 2 ] (Hdbm = dibenzoylmethane) via a sol-gel method. The Eu@glass exhibits intense red photoluminescence under the irradiation of near UV light with a quantum yield of 26%. Compared to the compound [Eu(dbm) 3 (H 2 O) 2 ], the photoluminescence intensity of Eu@glass is dramatically enhanced, and the emission lifetime of Eu III (0.517 ms) more than an … Show more

“…Compound 2 was prepared according to a modified procedure. [50][51][52] Ethylenediamine (2.463 g, 40.984 mmol) was added to a solution of dimethyl 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate 1 (200 mg, 1.025 mmol) in MeOH (15 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 19 hours and refluxed for 1 hour in an argon atmosphere.…”

“…Rare-earth-containing compounds have been the subject of extensive research in recent decades, mainly due to their interesting photophysical properties such as high quantum yields, narrow emission lines, and long-term fluorescence [1][2][3][4]. Due to these properties, these compounds have found a great number of applications in the field of opto-electronics, such as in solid-state lighting devices, temperature sensors, displays, bio-imaging applications, or solar cells [5][6][7][8][9].…”
