“…Using Friedel-Crafts intramolecular cyclobenzylation in the preparation of xanthenes, by the action of dichloromethyl methyl ether and TiCl 4 on 4,4'-di-tert-butyldiphenyl ether has allowed an electrophilic substitution ortho to the diphenyl ether linkage and yielded 2,7-di-tert-butylxanthene in 38% along with 2,7-di-tert-butylxanthone in 38% [63].
