Synthesis and NMR characterisation of new cyclam–glyoxal diamides

Abstract: New cyclam-glyoxal diamides were synthesised by reaction of 1,4,5,8-tetraazadecalin with two equivalents of methyl acrylate. The configuration of the four stereoisomers obtained was assigned using NMR tools.

“…The condensation of 1,4,5,8-tetraazadecalin 57 [ 29 ] with methyl acrylate in methanol gave stereoisomeric tetraazaperhydropyrenediones 58 -61 ( Scheme 10 ). The four isomers were formed in 20:16:35:29 ratio, with their total yield being 100%.…”

“…The interest in diazapyrenes is related to their practical applicability as drug candidates for the development of analgesics [1] and antibacterial [2] and antitumor [3,4] drugs agents. Polyazapyrenes are actively used in supramolecular chemistry for the design of molecular devices [5], host-guest type molecules [6], and macrocyclic squares incorporating mixed transition metal systems and a main group element [7].…”
