Synthesis and Metal Complexes of Thiourea Ligands Containing Carbohydrate‐Derived Substituents

Abstract: Two glucose-derived thiourea derivatives, 2a and 2b, were prepared by addition of the corresponding amino sugars to a solution of 4-nitrobenzoyl isothiocyanate (Scheme 1). The thioureas were isolated as colorless solids in good yields and were fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy, optical rotation, elemental analysis, and also by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Attempts to obtain CuII and NiII bis(chelate) complexes with these thioureas failed. However, the C(1)-protected thiourea de… Show more

“…In these compounds, the thiourea coordinates to the metal as monoanionic O,S chelate ligands. [274] Also Pd(II) complexes of 1-(benzoyl)-3,3-(di-alkyl) thiourea have been synthesized. [250] Unexpectedly, these ligands exhibited two different coordination modes with Pd(II) in complexes obtained under similar reaction conditions.…”

“…Instead, a dissociative process can be used to make the tin chalcogenide complex as per the method of Krebs involving dissolution of tin(IV) sulfide into aqueous ammonium sulfide solution [25] adopted for CZTS film fabrication by Ritchie et al [29]. In both of these CZTS aqueous nanoink works [28,29], thiourea was used as a supplementary complexing-stabilizing agent [30,31,32] for the soluble copper and zinc salts. Given that thiourea is classified as a likely human carcinogen [33], cleaner processing routes must be pursued.…”

“…In addition, the monoanionic charge donation of the amido nitrogen results in a shorter Ru-N amido (1.972(2) Å) bond of 4 in comparison to its Ru-N Schiff base bond. The tetrahydropyran (THP) moiety adopts a chair conformation which is common to many transition metal complexes containing chelators incorporating the THP core [39][40][41][42][43].…”
