Synthesis and evaluation of epoxidized vegetable oleic acid as a novel environmental benign plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride

Abstract: A bio-based plasticizers, acetyl-oleate triethylene glycol (AOT), was successfully synthesized by using oleic acid as a raw material through esterification, epoxidation, and acetylation. Its structure was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance. The plasticizing performances of this plasticizer was compared with those of two commercial ones: dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) and dioctyl adipate (DOA). This was done by blending these plasticizers with PVC, respectively.… Show more

“…Oleic acid esters, a byproduct of these processes, find common use as lubricants and plasticizers. 12 Presently, the majority of oleic acid-derived plasticizers studied involve small molecule polymers characterized by poor migration resistance. 13 In contrast, hyperbranched polymers (HBPs) represent a distinct category of highly branched macromolecules featuring numerous dendritic and terminal units.…”
