Synthesis and Deposition of Ag Nanoparticles by Combining Laser Ablation and Electrophoretic Deposition Techniques

Abstract: Silver nanostructured thin films have been fabricated on silicon substrate by combining simultaneously pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL) and electrophoretic deposition (ED) techniques. The composition, topography, crystalline structure, surface topography, and optical properties of the obtained films have been studied by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-visible spectrophotometry. The coatings were composed… Show more

“…Colloidal NPs can be uniformly deposited on a flat substrate surface by spin coating, which requires highly concentrated NP solutions with viscous organic matrix [ 3 ], electrophoretic deposition techniques with required electrically conductive surface [ 4 ], and centrifugation [ 5 ]. Drop casting, on the other hand, is a viable alternative bottom-up technique for the simple and inexpensive fabrication of thin nanogranular solid films with limited controllability, which has the potential to become a large-scale coating method.…”

“…Most of the literature reports demonstrate the formation of small, spherical silver nanoparticles in the presence of various biopolymers, such as starch, gelatin, and cellulose [17][18][19]. Heterostructured silver nanoparticles are reported mainly while following the plant mediated synthesis protocols [20], using stabilizers which has the ability to limit the growth of certain crystallographic planes of nanoparticles [21] and in some physical synthesis protocols [22]. Sodium alginate has also been used as a capping and reducing agent for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles [23].…”

“…The paper "Synthesis and Deposition of Ag Nanoparticles by Combining Laser Ablation and Electrophoretic Deposition Techniques" by Fernández-Arias et al presents the production of uniform silver nanostructured thin films on silicon substrate by pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL) and electrophoretic deposition (ED) techniques [3]. During the ablation process in aqueous media, the silver target constitutes the positive electrode, while the silicon substrate is the negative electrode.…”
