Synthesis and crystal structure of [CuCl(phen)2]3H3V10O28 · 7 H2O

Abstract: The new compound, [CuCl(phen) 2 ] 3 H 3 V 10 O 28 · 7 H 2 O, was prepared by reaction of an aqueous KVO 3 solution (pH 3) with an aqueous solution of CuSO 4 · 5 H 2 O in which 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and KCl were added. The crystal structure of the compound was determined, and the proton position in H 3 V 10 O 28 3-were calculated by the bond length/bond number method and also determined from difference electron density map. The protons are bound to colinearly arranged µ-OV 2 and µ-OV 3 groups which is the … Show more

“…, n = 0-4} that involves ten distorted VO6 octahedra sharing edges and vertices. So far many inorganic cation-decavanadate systems for example with Cu(I), Cu(II), Co(II), Na(I), K(I), Cs(I) and Ca(II) [22][23][24][25][26][27][28] were reported. In biology, decavanadates {V(V) systems} modulate the activity of various proteins, e. g. phosphatases, [29] myosin [30] and ATPase, [31,32] while they interact with actin.…”

“…There is another example in literature, where copper forms complexes with 1,10‐phenatroline, but the reaction conditions did not permit the bonding of these complexes to the decavanadate anions. Therefore the copper complexes act only as compensating cations in the solid structure 38…”

“…There are examples in the literature, where the obtained decavanadate unit is protonated in the solid structure. Rakovsky et al reported a triprotonated decavanadate species,38 while Zheng et al reported a tetraprotonated anion present in the solid 39. In both cases the decavanadate units are not bonded to other building blocks, which can be due to the protonation of the anion.…”

“…Decavanadates as a subclass of the family of POMs, are excellent inorganic building blocks to obtain novel vanadate-based hybrid compounds not only because of their abundant structural diversity but also due to their versatile physical and chemical properties, such as reversible redox behavior [33].
