Synthesis and crystal structure of two dimeric cadmium(II) complexes bonded with pseudohalides, 1.1 and 1.3 bonding

Abstract: Two different complexes were obtained from (dmpp) and Cd(II) ions with the aid of pseudohalide ions in non-aqueous solvents. The dinuclear complex formed with thiocyanate ions shows, using XRD, to posses two 1.3 bond m bridges [CdL(SCN) 2 ] 2 . The other dinuclear complex was also seen to form with cyanate ions but with the m-bridge in a 1.

“…The FTIR spectrum of the free ligand shows weak peaks at 2859, 2918 and 3087 cm -1 assignable to CH 3 and aromatic hydrogen bonds. However, the band of the free ligand at 1599 cm -1 , showing a non-coordinated pyridine ring, shifts to 1611 cm -1 upon complexation with Fe(III) [15]. When the spectrum of the complex is compared with the ligand, the shifts of c(CH) and d(ring) in the spectra may indicate some interaction between the iron atom and the pyridine ring.…”

“…Recently we have reported some homo-, hetero-trinuclear and homo-tetranuclear complexes using LH 2 ligand in our laboratory and published elsewhere [9][10][11][12][13][14]. There were also l-bridging complexes by azide ðN À 3 Þ [9,10,12] and thiocyanate (SCN À ) [14] anions.…”

“…There were also l-bridging complexes by azide ðN À 3 Þ [9,10,12] and thiocyanate (SCN À ) [14] anions. As an attendance of our investigation of the ligand LH 2 , we found surprisingly that the SCN À anion has not been widely used in the construction of heterotetranuclear complex.…”

“…Distance restraints were also applied to the H atoms of the water molecules with a set value of 0.90 (1) Å. The absolute structure was determined on the basis of the Flack [18] parameter x = 0.014 (6). The Flack's parameter close to 0 is indicative of a non-centrosymmetric structure.…”

“…The compound 2,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-N-pyrazolyl)pyridine (bdmpp) [1] has been used as versatile terpyridine analogue ligand because of its easy preparation and modification to prepare copper [2], cobalt [3] and mercury [4] monomeric complexes, and nickel [5] and cadmium [6] dinuclear complexes with the aid of pseudohalogens. Transition metal complexes with pseudohalogens have attracted much interest due to their structures and magnetic properties [7][8][9].While charged ligands like azide and thiocyanate, however, are known for their versatile behaviors as bridging ligands in end-to-end and/or end-on fashions [10,11], complexes containing selenocyanate anion have been rarely studied so far.…”
