Synthesis and charaterization of new arowmatic polymers containing long alkyl side chains and 1,3,5‐triazine rings

Abstract: SynopsisA series of new aromatic polyamides, polyimides, and polyureas containing 1,3,5-triazine rings in the main chain and two flexible long side chains for each unit, were prepared by the reaction of 2-( N-phenyl-N-octadecylamino ) -4-( N-aminophenyl-N-octadecylamino) -6-aminophenyl-1,3,5-triazines with aromatic diacid chlorides, pyromellitic dianhydride, and diisocyanates, respectively. These polymers were soluble in tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, and benzene, but had poor solubility in polar aprotic solvent… Show more

“…As an approach to improve the stability and processibility of heterocyclic polymers while maintaining the thermal stability, a number of published reports have described the synthesis and properties of s-triazine ring containing polymers in the main chain, such as polyesters [13], polyamides [14], polyimides [15], polyureas [16], polyazomethines [17], and so on. It is known that polyamides containing s-triazine as a heterocyclic unit in the main chain exhibit excellent thermal stability with improved solubility [18][19].…”

“…Up to now, many efforts have been focused on incorporating s ‐triazine rings into a number of polymers, such as polyazomethines,6 polyureas,7 polycyanurates,8 polyamides,9 polyimides,10 polyesters,11 poly(amide‐imide)s,12 polysulfides13 and poly(arylene ethynylene)s 14. Most frequently, their properties, especially mechanical strength and thermal and oxidative stability, have been significantly enhanced due to the introduction of s ‐triazine units.…”

“…Polymers with heterocyclic moieties show important physical, chemical, and thermal properties. Seeking to improve the solubility and processability of heterocyclic polymers while maintaining the thermal stability, some have published reports describing the synthesis and properties of heterocyclic polymers with s ‐triazine moieties, such as polyesters,1 poly(amide imide)s,2 polyazomethines,3 polyureas,4 polycyanurates,5 polyamides,6 polyamines,7 and polyethers 8. All these reports are based on linear polymers only.…”
