Synthesis and Characterization of Wooden Magnetic Activated Carbon Fibers with Hierarchical Pore Structures

Abstract: Wooden magnetic activated carbon fibers (WMACFs) with hierarchical pore structures were obtained by adding magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles into the liquefied wood. The structures and properties of WMACFs were analyzed by scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), N2 adsorption, and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results showed that WMACFs had high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area (1578 m2/g) and total pore volume (0.9… Show more

“…For the unmodified wood, a strong O–H stretching absorption at 3430 cm −1 is observed. The bands at 2930, 1730, 1650 and 1510 cm −1 are attributed to the stretching vibration of C–H in CH 3 , stretching vibrations of C=O in hemicelluloses, stretching vibrations of conjugated carbonyl and aromatic stretching vibrations of lignin, respectively [27,28,29]. For the modified wood, the characteristic absorption bands of wood have changed when compared with the unmodified wood.…”

“…Wood-derived activated carbon hollow fibres (ACHF) were prepared according the previous reports , Ma et al 2018. A mixture composed of dried wood powder and phenol at a mass ratio of 1 : 6 was liquefied for 2.5 h at 160°C with 8% phosphoric acid (based on the mass ratio of phenol).…”

“…However, previous studies showed that wood carbon materials exhibited moderate capacitive performance (Ma et al 2018). Therefore, a large amount of research has been devoted to maximally improving the low specific capacitance of biomassed carbon materials by adding heteroatoms (Peng et al 2016) or transition metal oxides (TMO) (Nagaraju et al 2017, Jiang et al 2018.…”
