Synthesis and Characterization of TiO2 Nanotubes (TiO2-NTs) Decorated with Platine Nanoparticles (Pt-NPs): Photocatalytic Performance for Simultaneous Removal of Microorganisms and Volatile Organic Compounds

Abstract: This work reports on the effect of TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2-NTs), decorated wih platinum nanoparticles (Pt-NPs), on the removal of bacteria and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The Pt-NPs were loaded onto the TiO2-NTs using the electrodeposition method at four decoration times (100, 200, 300, and 600 s). The realized Pt-NPs/TiO2-NTs nanocomposites were used for the degradation of cyclohexane, a highly toxic and carcinogenic VOC pollutant in the chemical industry. The achieved Pt-NPs/TiO2-NTs nanocomposites were … Show more

“…Residual dyes in wastewater, although at low concentrations, are harmful to animals, plants and humans due to their non-degradability and toxicity [5][6][7]. Because of their unique physicochemical characteristics, nanoscale semiconductor photocatalytic materials are widely used in dye removal [8]. In recent decades, TiO 2 has become an attractive semiconductor for photocatalysis due to its favorable stability and environmental friendliness [9][10][11][12].…”

“…The SiNWs were elaborated by the Ag-assisted chemical etching technique (Ag-ACE) [ 12 ], and the PbS nanoparticles were deposited by pulsed laser deposition [ 13 , 14 , 15 ]. On the other hand, semiconductor-mediated photocatalysis is a widely adopted procedure [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ] to degrade dyes and organic contaminants in wastewater, especially those decorated with nanoparticles [ 21 , 22 ]. It is our belief that the photodegradation effectiveness of dyes by PbS/SiNWs nanohybrids is reported first in this work.…”
