“…The structure of Fe 3 Mo 3 N consists of NMo 6 octahedra corner shared with the Fe atoms located at the sites between the octahedra. NPs of MMoN 2 (M = Fe, Co, Fe 0.8 Mo 0.2 , Fe 0.8 W 0.2 ) with WC-type layered structure were also synthesized by sol–gel methods. FeMoN 2 was synthesized by ammonolysis of Fe 3 Mo 3 N at 300 °C for 6 h, whereas (Fe 0.8 Mo 0.2 )MoN 2 and (Fe 0.8 W 0.2 )WN 2 were prepared from Fe 2 (MoO 4 ) 3 and Fe 2 (WO 4 ) 3 under NH 3 (g) at 700 °C for 96 h, respectively. Similarly, FeWO 4 was treated with NH 3 (g) at 800 °C for 12 h to obtain the FeWN 2 NPs .…”

“…In recent years ternary nitrides containing two transition metals have raised a lot of interest, especially after FeWN 2 was reported in 1993. Most of the new compounds have been prepared by ammonolysis of ternary oxide precursors at temperatures between 600 and 800 °C: MWN 2 from MWO 4 (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni), MnMoN 2 from MnMoO 4 , (Fe 0.8 W 0.2 )WN 2 from Fe 2 (WO 4 ) 3 , (Fe 0.8 Mo 0.2 )MoN 2 from Fe 2 (MoO 4 ) 3 , Fe 3 Mo 3 N from FeMoO 4 , and Ni 3 Mo 3 N from NiMoO 4 . A closer look at the ammonolysis reactions of MWO 4 (M = Fe, Co, Ni) to form MWN 2 nitrides revealed that it is probably a two-step reaction forming an intermediate phase at ∼420 °C .…”

“…Similar behavior is known from ternary inter-transition metal nitrides as, e.g., FeWN 2 and MnMoN 2 . [71][72][73] The temperature dependencies of the magnetic susceptibilities of the four known Sr and Ba phases can be interpreted as the sums of diamagnetic core contributions, weakly temperature dependent Pauli paramagnetic terms and minor Curie impurities. The resulting Pauli paramagnetic contribution indicates quite similar electronic densities of states at the Fermi level for all four phases (A 3 N)E with A = Sr, Ba; E = Sb, Bi of about 7.5 states per eV, in qualitative agreement with electronic band structure calculations (see below).…”
