Synthesis and Characterization of Silver/Clay/Chitosan Bionanocomposites by UV-Irradiation Method

Abstract: Problem statement: Silver/Montmorillonite/Chitosan Bionanocomposites (Ag/MMT/Cts BNCs) have been synthesized by UV-irradiation reduction method in the absence of any reducing agent or heat treatment which is used to antibacterial application and medical devices. Approach: MMT, Chitosan and AgNO 3 were used as a solid support, stabilizer and silver precursor, respectively. The properties of Ag/MMT/Cts BNCs were studied as a function of UV-irradiation times. The crystalline structure, d-spacing of interlayer of … Show more

“…Based on our previous work, therefore, Ag NPs in the interlayer space of MMT were synthesized according to two different methods, the chemical and physical reduction techniques, using β-D-Glucose, 33 NaBH 4 , 34,35 UV, [36][37][38] and γ-irradiation 39 methods as the reducing agents. In this study, the different-sized Ag NPs were synthesized in the lamellar space of the MMT in the aqueous solution, by changing the initial concentration of Ag + ions at room temperature.…”

“…A variety of methods exists to synthesize Ag-NPs, including the microemulsion technique, γ-ray, UV or microwave irradiation and spray pyrolysis [3][4][5][6]. Polymers have also been used as matrices in nanocomposites or as stabilizers to provide stability for the metal nanoparticles against oxidation, agglomeration and precipitation [7].…”
