Synthesis and Characterization of Silicone Based Pressure Sensitive Adhesive

Abstract: The MQ silicone resin was synthesized by using chlorotrimethylsilane and tetraethyl orthosilicate and its structure was analyzed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 29Si-nuclear magnetic resonance and gel permeation chromatography. The silicone based pressure sensitive adhesive was obtained by condensation polymerization between the MQ resin and methyl silicone rubber terminated with hydroxyl group. The structure of the adhesive was characterized by FTIR, and its thermal properties were invest… Show more

“…The methyl groups attached to the Si atoms are sterically undisturbed and can rotate freely; thus, the main polar chain -Si-O-Si- is shielded and in consequence, the intra- and intermolecular interactions are minimized. Therefore, to improve its mechanical properties, high-density cross-linking is necessary [ 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ] Driven by the need for regulatory compliance and changing performance requirements, silicone PSAs, based on new silicone chemicals and curing mechanisms, have emerged [ 18 , 23 , 24 ].…”

“…Pressure-sensitive silicone-based adhesives were developed. They have a low propensity for inducing exfoliation of the stratum corneum. , On the other hand, their skin retention is weak and they shift easily . Furthermore, they are relatively expensive.…”

“…In order to achieve a better reinforcement effect, it is necessary to maintain the chemical bonding point between the resin and the silicone rubber while the MQ silicone resins are used to reinforce condensed room-temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber [17]. The conventional method is to retain a portion of the silicon hydroxy group without being capped during the synthesisis of the MQ silicone resin and then prepare the RTV silicone rubber by the dehydration condensation of the residual silanols and hydroxy-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (HPDM S).…”
