Synthesis and Characterization of Polydiacetylene Films and Nanotubes

Abstract: We report here the synthesis and characterization of polydiacetylene (PDA) films and nanotubes using layer-by-layer (LBL) chemistry. 10,12-Docosadiyndioic acid (DCDA) monomer was selfassembled on flat surfaces and inside of nanoporous alumina templates. UV irradiation of DCDA provided polymerized-DCDA (PDCDA) films and nanotubes. We have used zirconium-carboxylate interlayer chemistry to synthesize PDCDA multilayers on flat surfaces and in nanoporous template. PDCDA multilayers were characterized using optical… Show more

“…The symmetric and asymmetric stretching of CH 2 bands was present at 2 855 and 2 926 cm À1 . The CH 2 stretching band positions suggests that the CH 2 in the alkyl chains are disorganized, contrary to the reported CH 2 stretching bands at 2 848 and 2 915 cm À1 in crystalline forms [30][31] or in films and vesicles, where polydiacetylenes are highly organized and polymerized with a blue color.…”

“…The original protocol 18 was modified by replacing the silane with fluorosilane to fit our needs. A fluorosilane solution composed of 95% (v/v) ethanol/water, 4% (v/v) tridecafluoro-1,1,1,2-tetrahydrooctyl)triethoxysilane and 1% (v/v) acetic acid was used as a releasing agent in our experiments.…”
