Synthesis and characterization of poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) and poly(aniline-Co-2,5-dimethoxyaniline): The processable conducting polymers

Abstract: Poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) (PDMOA) and its copolymers with aniline (PADMOA), which exhibit remarkably improved solubility in common organic solvents, were obtained by chemical polymerization, and characterized by a host of physical techniques. The lowering of the quinoid absorption in the IR spectra and the upshifting of the N 1s envelope in the XPS spectra indicate residual doping in the XPS polymers and thermal characteristic of the polymers provide evidence for hydrogen bonding, which appear to enhance the … Show more

“…The decomposition temperatures from the derivation of the TGA curves (not shown) indicate that both PANI and PDMA decompose in three weight loss steps [3]. For PANI, the initial weight loss at 50 -130 8C is due to the loss of water bound molecules or moisture.…”

“…PANI exists in three forms, e.g., fully reduced leucoemaraldine, half oxidized emaraldine and fully oxidized pernigraniline. Polyaniline can be synthesized chemically or electrochemically [3,6].…”

“…The second endothermic peak has been observed in the temperature region 150˚C - 300˚C of the thermogram. The change in energy in this region is associated with the morphological changes [25,26] taking place due to melting of the polymer. This indicates that the peaks are centered around glass transition temperature (T g ) which is ~207˚C, 275˚C, and 180˚C for samples PDMA1, PDMA3 and PDMA5, respectively.…”

“…It has potential application in areas such as sensors 1 , gas separation membranes 2 , light emitting diodes 3 , electrochromic and electronic devices 4 etc. It can be synthesized conveniently either as a powder or as a film by chemical and electrochemical routes [5][6] . However, one drawback of PANI is its poor processability.…”
