Synthesis and characterization of novel thermoplastic poly(oligophosphazene‐urethane)s

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Polyurethanes are some of the most popular polymers used in a variety of products, such as coatings, adhesives, flexible and rigid foams, elastomers, etc. Despite the possibility of tailoring their properties, polyurethanes suffer a serious disadvantage of poor thermal stability. Many attempts have been made in order to improve the thermal stability of polyurethanes. RESULTS: A new hydroxyl-terminated oligomer containing sulfone groups, 2,2-bis(4-hydroxy-4,4-sulfonyldiphoneloxy) tetraphenoxyoligocy… Show more

“…The thermal stability and other properties of polyurethanes can be improved substantially by combining them with high‐temperature stable polymers 20–23 . Among high‐temperature stable polymers, polyimides are an important class with excellent mechanical, electrical properties, inherent flame retardancy, and so forth 24–27 .…”

“…[16][17][18][19] The thermal stability and other properties of polyurethanes can be improved substantially by combining them with high-temperature stable polymers. [20][21][22][23] Among high-temperature stable polymers, polyimides are an important class with excellent mechanical, electrical properties, inherent flame retardancy, and so forth. [24][25][26][27] To combine the properties of polyurethane and polyimides, researchers have synthesized poly(urethaneimide)s and studied their properties.…”

“…The characteristic absorption peaks appeared between1293 cm −1 and 863 cm −1 are corresponding to P=N and P–N stretching bands in CP. 24 The stretching vibration absorption of P–O–Ph bond was obtained at 940 cm −1 for only HTCP and not in CP, indicating the chemical bond for matrix between CP and sulphonyl diol compound. The broad peak appeared at 3432 cm −1 indicates the presence of the hydroxyl group in HTCP compound.…”

“…As QPS content increases in WPU, the content of 1,4-BDO decreases accordingly. In addition, the steric hindrance of ring structure in QPS may exert adverse effect on the formation of ordered arrangement, thus disrupting the crystallization capacity of the polyurethane chains [31,32].…”
