Synthesis and characterization of novel polyurethanes based on 4-{(4-hydroxyphenyl)iminomethyl}phenol

Abstract: Four novel polyurethanes were prepared from 4-{(4-hydroxyphenyl)iminomethyl}phenol by reactions with two aromatic diisocyanates, 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and toluene 2,4-diisocyanate, and two aliphatic diisocyanates, isophorone diisocyanate and hexamethylene diisocyanate. The polyurethanes formed were characterized by UV-vis, fluorescence, FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, 1 3 C-NMR, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and X-ray diffraction. The polymers were semi-crystalline and all polymers were solu… Show more

“…Beyond 300 • C, the different polyurethanes show somewhat different degradation behavior. The thermal stability trend of MDI > HDI > TDI is consistent with the data on other polyurethanes reported in the literature (Raghu et al, 2008;Wei, Cheng, Li, & Yu, 2009). Note that the TGA curves for microwave heated and conventionally heated ␤-CD/TDI and ␤-CD/HDI are similar.…”

“…The FT-IR spectra of linear and crosslinked polyurethane samples show a broad and relatively symmetric peak at about 3,335 cm −1 due to the hydrogen bonded N-H stretching [22]. The distribution of the carbonyl peak indicates a degree of hydrogen-bonding of the urethane carbonyl group by interactions between different segments.…”
