Synthesis and characterization of metal complexes of azo dye based on 5‐nitro‐8‐hydroxyquinoline and their applications in dyeing polyester fabrics

Abstract: New Mn(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes of an azo dye ligand based on p-phenylenediamine with 5-nitro-8-hydroxyquinoline were synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, inductive coupled plasma analysis, molar conductance, powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, magnetic moment measurements, and infrared, 1 H NMR, electron ionization mass and UV-visible spectral studies. The spectral and analytical data reveal that the azo dye ligand acts as a monobasic bidentate ligand via d… Show more

“…An attempt to gain a better insight on the molecular structure of metal complexes, geometric optimization, and conformational analysis has been performed by the use of MM + force field as implemented in hyperchem 8.0. [26] 2.6 | Antifungal activity Antifungal activity of the synthesized ligand and its metal complexes were tested in vitro against soil-borne fungi including Macrophomina phaseolina, Verticillium dahliae, Fusarium solani, Fusarium oxysporum, F. incarnatum, F. camptoceras, F. semitectum, F. equisti, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, and S. rolifsii by the agar diffusion method. [32] The fungicide Hatric 6% (RS)-1-pchlorophenyl 4,4-dimethyl-3-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-methyl) pentan-3-ol was used as a positive control with recommended dose(1000 ppm).…”

“…Many researches have focused on the metal complexes of the azo compounds due to their extensive applications in a wide range of areas. These complexes display a wide range of biological activity such as antimicrobial and anti-fungal agents, [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] dyeing processes, [26,27] and photoelectronics and sensitizers in photocatalytic reactions. [28][29][30] Based on all the previous facts, this paper is focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel azo dye ligand based on 5-aminosalycalic acid (mesalamine drug) with 2-amino pyrimidine and its Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , and Cu 2+ complexes.…”

“…The presence of these colorants in effluents not only deteriorates water aesthetically but also harms the social system and health; moreover, these colorants present a threat to environmental sustainability [1][2][3]. Mordant dyes derived from acid dyes have been widely used for the coloration of textile fibers, such as wool, silk, polyester, cotton, and some modified cellulose fibers [4,5]. During coloration, some transition metal ions are typically used with mordant dyes to form a durable dye-metal complex ligand, which enhances fastness to light and washing in dyed fabrics [6].…”
