Synthesis and characterization of hyperbranched waterborne polyurethane/Ag nanoparticle composites

Abstract: The hyperbranched waterborne polyurethane (HWPU)/Ag nanocomposites were prepared by incorporation of silver sol into the HWPU. Formation of Ag nanoparticles in different generation hyperbranched polyesters was confirmed by UV–vis spectra, particle size distribution, and transmission electron microscope. The structures and properties of HWPU and its nanocomposites were measured with X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and thermogravimetric analysis, etc. SEM… Show more

“…Second, the characteristics of the nano-particles’ own high hardness can enhance the mechanical properties of the coatings. The elastic modulus of the coatings is also related to the crosslinking density [ 27 , 28 ]. The swelling equilibrium method was used to determine the relative molecular weight (Mc) between the adjacent crosslinking points of the polymer, as shown in Table 3 .…”

“…Recently, an alternative and promising strategy for the preparation of WPUs/Ag NPs composites is in situ synthesis of Ag NPs using WPUs as a stabilizing agent. [9][10][11] The formed Ag NPs were demonstrated the homogeneous distribution in the WPUs matrix and displayed excellent stability without any agglomeration. 12 For example, an anionic WPU with carboxylate-functional group was tailored synthesized via the introduction of bis (hydroxymethyl) propionic acid (DMPA) in the backbone of WPU and was employed as a stabilizing agent to in situ form Ag NPs for preparation of WPUs/Ag NPs composites.…”

“…The hyperbranched polymer chemistry was introduced by Han et al in PUD-Ag composite synthesis[101]. First, water soluble, three different generation hyperbranched polyesters (HBPE1, 2 and 3) were synthesized and mixed with the AgNO 3 aqueous solution in the presence of ascorbic acid.…”
